What do gorgeous hats, delicate china cups and saucers, feathered fascinators, cucumber sandwiches, crowns, Corgis, British bunting, wedding cakes and tea all have in common? A royal celebration.
Kutztown Community Library hosted a Royal Wedding Watch Party on May 19, which was attended by 21 women, men and children from the community who gathered to celebrate and watch the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
“We wanted a way to bring the festivities and celebration to our community, without having to go further than your favorite library,” Shelby Schwoyer said.
The library previously hosted a solar eclipse party; with that in mind, it was only right for there to be a party for the Royal Wedding.
With the wedding streaming on two different screens, it seemed as though the guests in the library were sitting right there in George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. Awe and excitement filled the room as attendees’ sipped tea and watched the guests arrive for Markle and Prince Harry’s big day.
While waiting for the bride to arrive, the library party attendees sipped tea from ornate china cups, played Pin-the-Tail on the Corgi, drew sketches of their ideas for Meghan’s dress in a game of ‘Guess the Dress’ and were treated to an English tea buffet of scrumptious delights. Another pre-wedding highlight was spotting celebrity guests who attended the event.
“It’s just a global event that you want to be a part of,” said Janet Yost, director of the Kutztown Community Library.
After the couple tied the knot, the Wedding Cake contest got under way. The Library provided heart-shaped lemon cakes in various sizes, as well as icing and sprinkles, for participants to create their own masterpieces. A royal wedding photo booth was also a popular part of the celebration.
Taylor Kutz, Youth Librarian, brought her mother and grandmother to participate. The three of them had a wonderful time marveling at Markle’s gorgeous wedding dress and the celebrities as they arrived for the festivities.
Lacie Henninger and Shelby Schwoyer were coordinators of this activity.
