An early morning fire claimed the lives of two people in their Centre Township home on June 6.

Members of State Police Hamburg and Troop L Fire Marshal Unit are investigating the structure fire at 123 Shamrock Avenue, Centre Township.

At 1:43 a.m., fire crews responded to a report of a residential structure fire in Irish Creek Village, Centre Township.

State Police report that neighbors discovered a fire occurring in the residence. When crews were being summoned to the scene a neighbor made an attempt to rescue the occupants, but was unable to do so due to the conditions inside.

According to State Police, crews arrived and found the front portion of the structure engulfed with fire. They attempted to make rescue efforts however both occupants, Scott Taulker, 57, and Maureen Taulker, 74, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Numerous pets also perished in the fire.

The damage is estimated at approximately $50,000.

State Police report that it is unknown if any smoke detectors were present inside the residence. None were located during the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing. At this time the fire is believed to have started in the center of the residence. A potential ignition source is unknown at this time, according to police.
