EXETER >> Officers made contact with over 1,000 drivers recently during a DUI checkpoint that was set up last week.

Police said in a release Monday that an overnight DUI checkpoint set up on June 8 on the 700 block of Baumtown Road yielded several arrests including some for drug possession. Police said the following incidents resulted from the checkpoint:

* 11 DUI arrests including drugs and alcohol

* Six drug possession charges* One traffic related fraud

* 23 traffic citations* 19 warnings issued

In addition to these interactions, police said they handed out pamphlets with information about the dangers of DUI to each driver that came through the checkpoint.

Exeter Police participated in the checkpoint along with other agencies including Central Berks Regional Police, Amity Township Police, Hamburg Borough Police, Muhlenberg Township Police, Pennsylvania State Police, Shillington Borough Police, Douglass Township Police, Wyomissing Borough Police, Spring Township Police, Northern Berks Regional Police and Exeter Township Fire Police.
