Hamburg Police arrested a Bernville man on June 11 on charges related to a May 26 shooting incident on 4th Street, Hamburg.

According to Hamburg Police, officers responded to a shooting reported at about 2:36 p.m. on May 26. A woman had been shot in the right hand. At the time of the shooting, she was inside her apartment. Witnesses observed a man, driving a black sedan, shooting a gun toward the apartment building.

An investigation led to the arrest of Zachary Glover, 25, Bernville, on June 11 by Hamburg Borough Police on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, simple assault, possession of instruments of a crime, and discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure.

Hamburg Borough Police Chief Anthony M. Kuklinski said prior to the shooting, there were altercations with other people while Glover walked along 4th Street. The first incident was an altercation between Glover and a woman in the area of the VFW. Then, in front of the movie theater, there was a second altercation with another person. Glover walked down 4th Street to 44 South where there was a verbal altercation with two men sitting in front of a residence. Glover then went to his vehicle, and driving along 4th Street, he stopped and fired a gun, shooting into a residence. As a result, a woman inside was struck by a bullet in the hand. Glover drove to 4th and State Street, turned around and fired a second shot at the residence.

“This was just a random individual who came out of one of the local drinking establishments and obviously had a chip on his shoulder for someone. He had just a propensity for violence that night to injure someone. Something triggered him to do this,” Kuklinski said. “This was a random act of violence.”

Kuklinski said the woman who was injured as a result of Glover shooting into the residence had no interaction with Glover, she was inside her residence when the bullet struck her.

“He violated the sanctity of her residence by doing what he did, by shooting into the house at random,” Kuklinski said.

Kuklinski commended the officers who investigated the incidents.

“The officers were very diligent in their efforts to ensure that public safety wasn’t hindered in any way. They worked well over 20 hours straight to identify these suspects and witnesses, and then subsequently make an arrest,” Kuklinski said.

He also commended the District Attorney’s Office in Berks County for their assistance.
