Summer Quest is in full swing at the Kutztown Community Library! All ages are encouraged to keep their minds active, and have fun this summer.

“This year will offer totally new opportunities. Our quest will consist of fun activities along with reading that will take us on an adventure,” says Taylor Kutz, Youth Librarian.

Summer Quest, which runs through Aug. 18, is a way for participants to develop skills and expand their imaginations.

Those participating in Summer Quest receive an Activity Tracker with 30 activities; they must complete 15 of the 30 for the chance to enter a raffle and receive a prize bag; everyone walks away with something! Activities range from reading a bedtime story to preparing a recipe. Parents love the choice of “clean up your bedroom.” Each item on the list helps promote a Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts and Math based learning system.

Along with these simple and fun activities, the library offers programs for all age groups. For children grades K – 5, Jesse the Reptile Guy will make an appearance at the Kutztown Park on Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. Teens grades 6 – 12 can attend a Paisley & Company event on Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. during which a presenter will guide participants in making their own individual scents (participants must sign up in advance). Unique programs will be happening weekly throughout the summer along with the library’s regularly scheduled events. The kids programs will be on Thursdays at 10 a.m. and the teen programs on Tuesdays at 1 p.m.

Also, the KCL will be participating in Kutztown Day on Aug. 5. From 1:30 to 5:30, there will be a game of mini golf for ages 5 and up. Earn a free game of mini golf by completing an Activity Tracker. Present the wristband, located in the Summer Quest prize bag, at the KCL’s station for the game. Extra tickets will be available for purchase.

Don’t worry, there’s something for adults to partake in as well. Participants, ages 18 and up, have the opportunity to be rewarded for all their reading with the KCL’s Summer Gift Basket Raffle. Read or listen to an audio book and enter for a chance to win prizes.

Younger participants always have their time to come in for a movie screening and now so do the adults. This summer there will be the Pages to Screen event where the library hosts a movie for adults. Held in the afternoon, Library staff encourage attendees to bring a lunch to enjoy during the screening.

Gift cards and coupons were supplied from Miller Center for the Arts, Golden Eagle Comics & Cards, Weaver’s Orchard and Chipotle. Sunglasses with the KCL’s logo were made possible with help from Deborah Berger owner of Hasch Daal Custom Embroidery.

Prizes for the adults include gift certificates from local businesses such as Hive Cafe, Tommy Boy’s Pizza and Cafe, Giant Food Stores, Paisley & Company, Sheetz, CVS Pharmacy, Firefly Bookstore, Mark’s Sandwich Shop, Betty’s and Weis Markets. The KCL would like to send out a special thank you to all the venders for helping to make these prizes possible.
