The final races of the Blue Mountain Wildlife Trail Race Series for 2018 were held June 23 with the Run to the Rock 2018. Just enough rain overnight to make the trails seriously muddy. Just cool enough to be comfortable. Three challenging courses. All the makings for a great trail race. Big thanks to our sponsors, volunteers and everyone who came out to make this set of races a great success.

The challenging 10K course starts on the Etchberger Trail at the Hamburg Community Park and runs south to the old Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge, crosses the Schuylkill River and continues onto the Therman Madiera Switchback, through the Desilting Basin on the Cabela’s Wetlands Trail, then turns north onto Kernsville Dam Road and continues to the Lowlands Trail along the Schuylkill River to the Kernsville Dam to the Pulpit Rock Trail. It continues north along the Schuylkill River to “The Rock”, where it doubles back to the Kernsville Dam Road, to the Therman Madiera Switchback and the Etchberger Trail, finishing at the Hamburg Community Park.

The 5K course starts at Hamburg Community Park and runs to the Etchberger Trail, south to the old Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge, crosses the Schuylkill River and continues onto the Therman Madiera Switchback running north along the west bank of the Schuylkill. The course loops through the Desilting Basin on the Cabela’s Wetlands Trail and Cut-Off Trail back to the Therman Madiera Switchback and the Etchberger Trail, finishing at the Hamburg Community Park.

The 2.5K course starts at Hamburg Community Park and runs to the Etchberger Trail, and then runs south to the old Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge, crosses the Schuylkill River and continues onto the Therman Madiera Switchback running north along the west bank of the Schuylkill. The course doubles back at the I-78 Bridge and retraces its path along the Therman Madiera Switchback and the Etchberger Trail, finishing at Hamburg Community Park.

This event is the third and final event in the series of three race events. All BMW Trail Races Series Races have great courses; registrant goodie bags; cash prizes for the fastest male and female racers in the long races and a generous slate of awards for all races; a deejay providing post-race entertainment; plenty of drinks, fruit and baked goodies to replenish the body; post-race activities for the kids; free hot lunch for all participants and volunteers; door prize drawings; and plenty of Trail Race Series and BMW gear for purchase.
