POTTSTOWN >> Runners, take your mark.

The 4th Annual Pottstown Half Marathon will be returning to Pottstown bright and early on Saturday.

The 13-mile race will begin and end at the Sly Fox Brewery, 331 Circle of Progress, Pottstown. Starting at 7 a.m., the annual race welcomes hundreds of runners to a course that will take runners from Sly Fox down to Glasgow Street where they will proceed throughout Pottstown before returning to the brewery for a victory beer or two.

So far this year, the race has over 300 registered runners representing 23 different states and organizers are still looking for a few more volunteers to assist with the day’s events.

“Our community is great. Last week we walked part of the course through some of the communities. It’s eight miles and we put fliers on houses asking for support for the runners. Each year it gets bigger and bigger and all the runners say it’s great. We want people to come out and cheer the runners on and get everybody involved,” said race director Chris Bayless.

The Pottstown Half Marathon is the only half marathon that has ever been held in Pottstown, Bayless said. In 2018, as in previous years, the Pottstown Half Marathon will also be the Road Runners Club of America Pennsylvania Championship race. Winners of the RRCA categories for this race will be crowned Pennsylvania Champions at the half marathon distance.

The race expo and bib pickup will also be at the Sly Fox Brewery from 3 p.m. 7 p.m. on Friday, July 13. Those interested in running the race can find the application and course map on the Sly Fox Track Club website. Organizers are encouraging runners to pick-up packets on Friday as there will be limited pickup on the morning of the race. Race Day Registration is from 5:45 a.m.-6:30 a.m.

Bayless added that police will be in the area and many road restrictions will be in place Saturday morning for the safety of the runners. Organizers are asking drivers be vigilant when travelling in Pottstown during the race.
