Investigation into complaints by neighbors leads to drug arrest in Hamburg

Hamburg Borough Police investigated complaints reported by neighbors that lead to a drug arrest on North Second Street in Hamburg on July 17.

“We want to take the opportunity to thank our residents for their vigilance and reporting this type of unwanted activity. We encourage all residents to continue to report these type of activities,” Hamburg Borough Police posted in their report on the department Facebook page.

Dennis Doll of Hamburg was arrested for violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug Device and Cosmetic Act, Receiving Stolen Property and Fraudulent Use of a Registration Plate to conceal the actual owner of a vehicle.

Hamburg Borough Police initiated an investigation into complaints from neighbors on July 16.

“Complaints were of suspicious vehicles and individuals at all hours of the night, congregating at 46 North Second Street. Officers maintained patrols in the area and monitored the activities,” according to the police report. “Officers made an arrest on July 16 of an individual that provided first hand knowledge of drug activity at the location and identified a suspect.”

Hamburg Police report that officers continued the investigation that afternoon until early morning July 17, gathering “substantial and related evidence” as well as sufficient information for a search warrant for the residence.

Officers of the Hamburg Police Department, Tilden Township Police and the Berks County Sheriffs K-9 unit executed the search warrant at the residence.

Hamburg Borough Police report that through the investigation, numerous items used to facilitate illegal drug use and distribution were located. Through the search, a vehicle was seized as the vehicle was believed to be used for drug trafficking. Additionally the vehicle was not properly licensed and the individual that possessed the vehicle displayed a registration plate on the vehicle that was confirmed as stolen in Mahoning Township.

Doll was arrested on July 17 and was arraigned at District Court 23-3-06 in Hamburg. Bail was set at $20,000 cash bail. He was remanded to Berks County Prison in default of bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 23 at District Court.

Hamburg Police report that the “named defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.”
