Kutztown restaurants prepare their finest menu on Aug. 3 for the 4th annual Dinner on Main.
Hosted by Kutztown Community Partnership, Dinner on Main, starting at 6 p.m., showcases the various local restaurants serving the Kutztown area by inviting participants to set up along the 200 block of West Main Street and serve a select menu to event attendees.
“The event originally ran as a Kutztown Bicentennial event, but due to popularity, the Kutztown Community Partnership elected to make it an annual event,” said Shena Hesselbein, Office Manager, Kutztown Community Partnership. “It’s general purpose is to raise funds for the Kutztown Community Partnership’s programs and initiatives, but it also serves to promote the local restaurants and provides an opportunity for the surrounding communities to get together and just have a good time.”
Last year, Dinner on Main attracted more than 1,000 guests.
This year, the event has grown in popularity as 11 local restaurants have registered to participate including Betty’s, Camillo’s Italian Restaurant, Four Monkeys Coffee, Golden Avalanche Brewing Company, Hive Cafe, Kutztown FOE, K’town Pub, Pop’s Malt Shoppe, Saucony Creek Brewery + Gastropub, Spectators Bar & Grille, and Spuds. Those in attendance will have a chance to choose their favorite vendor by voting for the inaugural People’s Choice award.
“The event remains a popular favorite for a few reasons,” said Hesselbein. “Most participating restaurants offer special items during the event that one cannot find on their typical daily menu. The event also has a relax and have a good time with friends kind of vibe. You get to eat delicious food, outdoors in the summer weather, all while listening to some great music.”
Hesselbein said the event also remains popular because it is free to the public and attendees pay each restaurant directly when ordering so the cost is affordable for the whole family to attend.
This year, Sixty 30 is lined up to entertain the crowd with classic hits of the 60s and 70s.
The event is BYOB, but several participating restaurants will be selling beverages. Guests have the opportunity to dance, dine, and drink into the night as the event continues until 10 p.m.
“It benefits the community in a few ways,” said Hesselbein. “It directly benefits the local restaurants by providing an opportunity for them to showcase their food offerings to potential customers. Also, Kutztown morale is boosted as the community comes out to support those local businesses and spend some face time with other community members.”
Proceeds from Dinner on Main will be reinvested in downtown Kutztown through Kutztown Community Partnership’s programs and initiatives.
