Police Blotter: Hamburg Police investigate hit and run car fire; driver in custody suspected of DUI

During the week of June 29 to July 5, the Hamburg Police responded to approximately 65 calls for service, including two crashes, one wanted persons, two domestics and two death investigations. The following is a brief summary of the most notable incident:

On July 29, 2018 at approximately 2:55 p.m., Hamburg Police responded to a report of vandalism. This occurred in the 100 block of N. 4th St. when the caller entered his vehicle and heard a loud “pop.” This pop was the back windshield shattering.

On July 29, 2018 at approximately 3:39 a.m., Hamburg Police responded to the intersection of Fawn Ct. and Chestnut St. for a vehicle that had caught fire. Through investigation, police determined this vehicle was involved in a hit and run crash that occurred in the 300 block of State Street. The driver continued to drive turning north on N. 3rd Street and then on Port Clinton Avenue before coming to a final rest on Chestnut Street where the vehicle caught fire. The driver was located and taken into custody for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence of alcohol. Charges pending the results of alcohol testing.

On July 30, 2018 at approximately 9:45 a.m., Hamburg Police responded to a report of disorderly conduct. Police responded to the unit block of Primrose Street and spoke to the victim. The victim stated that he had a verbal altercation with another male who stated that he was leaving, but would return with friends to “take care of” the victim. This investigation is on-going.
