A day of expected thunderstorms has caused the postponement of the Starfest event scheduled for Saturday at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site until next weekend.

“Thunderstorms are scheduled all day Saturday. It only needs to rain once to wet the field and we can’t set up equipment if there’s a chance of rain,” according to organizer Robert Cordivari.

Instead, the event is now scheduled next weekend, Saturday, Aug. 18 from 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. with backup date of Sunday, Aug. 19.

Unfortunately, keynote Speaker, Derrick Pitts, will not be available at the new date, according to Cordivari.

What will be available is public viewing of the wonders of the Milky Way through more than 20 amateur, high-end telescopes.

Admission and parking is free, but donations are needed to support the event.
