The most recent unemployment rate for Berks County was not announced Tuesday, an apparent side effect of the coronavirus.
The January jobs report from the state Department of Labor & Industry was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. However, the update was not available.
The department said a press release that the report will not be released this month.
Much of Pennsylvania’s government is currently shut down along with other nonessential services in an effort to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, better known as the coronavirus disease.
The job numbers are available on the department’s web site, but were not compiled as of press time.
Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate for January, released March 6, rose one-tenth of a percentage point over the previous month to 4.7%.
Berks unemployment rose by two-tenths of a percentage point to 4.6% in December despite a record 182,400 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs in the county.
The metro areas are typical released nearly two weeks after the state figures are published.
