Senior Hali Hoch was honored by the Oley Valley School Board at their Feb. 19 meeting for her recent accomplishments at the FFA national convention and regional music auditions.

Hoch placed first in the nation, beating out 131 other contestants at the FFA competition held late last year. The competition entailed questioning on topics related to agriculture and food sciences.

An accomplished violinist, Hoch also placed first at the district orchestra competition held last month.

Hoch received a certificate of achievement for each of her accomplishments.

In other business, the board announced the snow makeup days Oley needs in order to meet the state-mandated 180 instructional days.

Classes will now be held on Monday, March 17, Monday through Thursday, April 14-17, and Monday, April 21.

A teacher in-service day required under Act 80 will be held on Good Friday, April 18. This is a make-up in-service day previously scheduled for Feb. 14 that was canceled due to inclement weather.

Superintendent Dr. Tracy S. Shank said the snow days were built into the 2013-14 calendar and did not require board approval. However, should there be any additional snow days, board approval would be required to add days to the end of the school year. School is currently slated to end June 11.

Board President Stephen S. Burns announced that the March 19 board meeting will be held in the conference room at the Berks Career & Technology Center’s East Campus, 3307 Friedensburg Road, Oley.
