The U.S. Army 333rd Engineering Company returned home from Afghanistan late Tuesday, March 11, concluding a nearly year-long deployment as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, state Sen. Judy Schwank announced on March 10.

The unit will be escorted from Harrisburg to Reading by local police, fire, and motorcycle enthusiasts.

Family, friends, and local citizens gave the 333rd a fitting send off last year as they lined the sidewalks of Route 724 and Lancaster Avenue (Route 222) in Shillington, Sen. Schwank said prior to the event. It certainly would be fitting and appropriate if area residents again stood along the same route to salute and welcome the company back home.

She encouraged everything to take a few minutes tomorrow to greet our hometown heroes and let them know how much we appreciate their sacrifice and service.

Schwank said most of the more than 140 members of the 333rd Engineering Company are from the Reading area.

The 333rd conducts horizontal construction operations that include road work, leveling operations, finish grade for roads and airfields, and surface and drainage maintenance.
