New Century Club awards scholarships

At a recent GFWC The New Century Club of West Chester meeting, five scholarship winners representing each of the five colleges at West Chester University were honored. These winners were awarded $1,000 tuition scholarships to the university for the spring semester. Pictured at the club ceremony are club President Ruth Ainis, Karen Lawson (College of Education), Karen Goldman (College of Arts & Sciences), Jennifer Hartz (College of Visual & Performing Arts), Lisa Lynn Fox (College of Business & Public Affairs), Courtney Jackson (College of Health Sciences) and club Education Chairman Marilyn Light. For more than a century, education has been a cornerstone of GFWC (General Federation of Womens Clubs) beliefs and practices. GFWC clubs work each year to institute programs that will improve literacy and educational opportunities at home as well as around the world. As part of West Chesters GFWC The New Century Clubs efforts to complete this goal, the club annually awards college scholarships to nontraditional students who have met high academic standards and who are in their third or fourth year of study. Interested parties may apply for scholarships through the West Chester University Foundation website at To learn more about The New Century Club of West Chesters educational opportunities, contact Marilyn Light at
