Shillington – Two residents of The Heritage of Green Hills, an active, 55+ independent living community in Shillington won second place prizes in the 8th annual Senior Festival of the Arts held June 1-8 at the Miller Center for the Arts in Reading.
Dyla Morrissey won the second place prize in the acrylics category for her piece entitled ‘Still Life.’ Richard Walter won the second place prize in the watercolor category for his piece entitled ‘Under the Deep.’
The Senior Festival of the Arts is annually presented by the Community School of Music & the Arts and held at the Miller Center for the Arts. The event increases awareness of the artistic talents of Berks County seniors. Artists must be 55 years old or older and must be residents of the county.
‘A number of Heritage residents are talented artists, whether it’s painting, music, photography or dance,’ said Cheryl Anderson, community life services director at The Heritage.
‘Our community promotes Eight Dimensions of Wellness, which are designed to keep seniors active and vital, and Dyla and Richard are great examples of residents who are thriving in their senior years.’
The Eight Dimensions, a holistic approach to healthful aging, include intellectual, physical, emotional, social, spiritual, vocational, environmental, and health services.
