Children and seniors joined together in rhythmic dance with a special Zumba day at the Birdsboro Community Center Wednesday, July 16.
Smiles lit up faces as the Latin inspired music unified the campers from Camp Adventure with the senior citizens who attend events at Berks Encore with fun and some blood pumping exercises.
“It went well, mixing the kids with the seniors was a first for me, but turned out perfect and fun,” Jolene Wert, certified Zumba instructor, said after the festivities. Zumba benefits people of all ages with physical to mental health benefits.
Camp Adventure offers an eight-week long summer camp activities through the community center for children local to the area. The camp is in its fifth year of operation.
Aside from their Zumba adventures, the campers take trips to the Philadelphia Zoo, Camden Aquarium, Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom, Boardwalk Pizza.
This year around 150 children ages seven to 12 attended the camp. Parents have two options for their children with the base camp running 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and extended camp running from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
