There is only about a month remaining to register for the 3rd Annual Dr. Jeffrey F. Zackon Memorial 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, Oct. 18.
The 5K Run will start at the Oley Valley High School at 9 a.m., proceed through downtown Oley and the surrounding countryside, and finish back at the High School. The walk will leave the High School parking lot and proceed out and back along Main Street.
The 5K Run is in memory of Dr. Jeffrey F. Zackon, former superintendent of the Oley Valley Schools, who passed away while on an overseas school trip in the spring of 2011.
Funds raised will benefit the Oley Valley Community Education Foundation, an organization which Dr. Zackon was instrumental in establishing. Dr. Zackon was a dedicated educator and active community leader, and the run is an effort to preserve the legacy he created in the Oley Valley.
Medals will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers (male and female) in each of the following age brackets: Under 15, 15-19 years, 20-29 years, 30-39 years, 40-49 years, 50-59 years and 60+ years. We also have special hand-decorated slates that will be awarded to the overall Male and Female champion in both the adult and youth age groups.
In addition, a raffle will be held after the event and everyone who participates in the event is eligible to win some exciting raffle items!

Parking for the race is available at the High School. Please enter the lot via Lynx Drive off Route 73.
