With the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge pouring across communities as summertime concludes, one local group decided to take on the challenge while inviting others to do so if they wished.
Staff at Walnut Woods Independent Senior Living Community organized the challenge for Sept. 23, inviting residents, and anyone else, to participate.
According the Jessica Gumbert, enrichment coordinator for Walnut Woods, the ice was replaced with confetti for some of the residents. She noted that ice water can be a bit of risk for elderly individuals.
The event, held in order to raise money for ALS Association, was held on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
Boyertown Mayor Marianne Deery joined Gumbert to take on the icy challenge.
Managers Paul Woolever and Toni Woolever took on the challenge as well, alongside other staff members.
The ALS Association focues on the research of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, often known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
