Lauren Gendall, a senior at Twin Valley High School, has been named October’s Intern of the Month. Most high school students hope to experience one internship in their high school career, but Gendall has exceeded that regularity. She currently has two internships-one at Honey Brook Pharmacy and another at Twin Valley Elementary Center.
Each day, Gendall can be found working in the pharmacy on various tasks. Some of her tasks include filling prescriptions, stocking shelves, and caring for the customers. Anthony Scalies, company owner and Gendall’s mentor, assists Gendall in her daily responsibilities at the pharmacy.
“Lauren has a zest for life and learning and is a pleasure to instruct,” said Scalies. “We are honored that someone of Lauren’s skills chose to perform her internship here at Honey Brook Pharmacy,” he added.
During her school day, Gendall also interns at Twin Valley Elementary Center with Mrs. Debbie Troffo’s 3rd grade class. Some of her responsibilities at TVEC include helping the children with their math homework, planning and executing lesson plans, and preparing the classroom for activities each day.
“Lauren Gendall is a self-starter. She already understands our routines and procedures and doesn’t hesitate to jump in whenever and wherever she is needed,” said Troffo. “She has tackled every assignment and task with 100% effort,” she added.
Gendall’s love of learning is unmistakable. Her desire to explore and experience new things each day drives her to success.
“I love the hands-on experience that I get to have when I’m interning. Both of my mentors are really great, and it is a pleasure to be working with them each day. Both of my internships are helping me figure out what I might want to do one day,” said Gendall.
