Community members and their canines traveled to the Oley Valley on Sunday, Oct. 5, for the Boyertown/Oley Bark For Life.
The event, held annually, celebrated it’s second year.
Grand Marshal Sherry Sperring shared her story about her K-9 caregiver Playgirl during the opening ceremony. Playgirl came into Sperring’s life during her battle with cancer, Sperring believes her recovery was greatly increased by having Playgirl in her life.
‘Cancer in running rampant,’ said Sperring, ‘Take care of yourself, live your life and enjoy it.’
Sperring and Playgirl then led the way for Survivor Lap.
American Cancer Society staff member Amy Miller took the oppurunity to speak about ALS while inviting everyone to the Boyertown Relay For Life kick-off meeting on Monday, Oct. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd Church.
Phoenix Animal Rescue, a kids corner, crafters tables, dog massages, Riki, Harry’s Tattoo trailer, Patt Veterinary Hospital and Fuzzy Days Grooming were all set up at the event to offer and showcase their services to the community.
New to this year, the Bark is presented Howling For A Cure-a free concert series featuring national recording artist Stephanie Grace in addition to Coahoma Soul, John Reinkemeyer and Mark Ferrero, Krusty and the Timebomb and Yolanda Spohn.
