In recognition of “Wildland Firefighter Day” in Delaware, Jack A. Markell, Governor of the State of Delaware, Matthew Denn, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of Agriculture Ed Kee, Senators and Representatives honored the Delaware Forest Service Initial Attack Crews.
They were honored for their “selfless efforts and contributions in helping fight the wildfires in the Western region of our nation. The effort helped save both lives and property and are greatly appreciated in Delaware and throughout the United States. This tribute brings with it sincere gratitude for their courage in service and best wishes moving forward into the future.” The recognition event was held Wednesday, Oct. 8 in the Governor’s Private Office, Legislative Hall, Dover Delaware.
Chris Sturm, of Hamburg, was among those being honored. Governor Markell presented each crew member a Commemorative Proclamation and Honorary Tribute to recognize their professionalism and hard work while on Western Fire Fighting Assignment. In 2014 the crews battled wildfires in Twisp, Washington and Oakridge, Oregon. Sturm is a member of the Hamburg Forest Fire Crew and has been helping fight the western wildfires since 1987.
