Throughout the area, local moms are supporting local moms.
On Friday, Oct. 10, the Moms Club of New Hanover Township held an Open House at Wilcox Farms.
According to club’s president, Kerry Bonner, the club has been in the community for more than two decades and is a non-profit organization. The membership is comprised of moms who are at home with their children during the working day and who reside within the Boyertown Area School District.
The group currently has 33 members and is always ready to welcome more. There are no requirements for the club’s moms to have children of a certain age or to participate in activities. “Moms can participate as much or as little as they like, in keeping with the changing dynamics of their family,” said Bonner.
The club’s tag line is “Moms providing Moms Support.”
Club members accomplish this by planning child-friendly events such as playgroups, field trips, crafts and holiday celebrations, etc.
Bonner says the club also has a J.U.M.P. (Just Us Moms Play) Group, for those moms whose children are in school during the day, as well as “much needed” monthly Moms Night Out.
“These activities are a chance for many of us to compare notes, establish friendships for ourselves and our children as well as explore all that the area has to offer. Upcoming events for this month include play dates at the park, a Fire House Tour, a visit to Sky Zone for the Moms as well as a Halloween craft and party,” says Bonner. “We support our members in time of need through a group called Moms Helping Hands – providing Home Cooked Meals when members have surgery, bring home a baby, or are experiencing another significant event.”
The club puts out a monthly newsletter and meet monthly at a local church where they often times have speakers, demonstrations and other activities.
Bonner also explained that the club’s major activities are participating in service projects. “The idea of being able to give back to our community as well as introduce our children to the idea of ‘service’ is something that unites us.”
For example, during the open house at Wilcox Farms, the club collected new and gently used Halloween Costumes to be donated to the Boyertown Multi-Service.
“Our upcoming service Projects include Operation Gratitude; collecting leftover Halloween Candy and dental supplies to be included in care packages sent to members of the military deployed overseas,” said Bonner. “An ongoing service project is decorating Meals-On-Wheels bags which are then filled and delivered by the Boyertown Multi-Service. This is a simple craft that our children can participate in and hopefully bring a smile to the recipients face.”
Bonner described the Wilcox Farm event as a “great success,” during which the club saw many new faces in addition to current members who came to enjoy the hayride, corn-maze and play area.
The group is a local chapter of the International Moms Club. For more Information about the chapter, visit their website at <www.MomsClubofNHT.Webs.com>.
Bonner became a member of the club in 2007 after her first child was born.
“Both myself and my children have and continue to make dear friends, find new things to do and places to explore all thanks to the Moms Club,” she said.
