Ashley Mohn, of Womelsdorf, was crowned as the Pennsylvania 2014-2015 Dairy Princess Sept. 20 after a three-day competition with 26 county dairy princesses.

“Receiving the title of PA State Dairy Princess is truly a dream come true,” said Mohn. “I am looking forward to interacting with consumers and sharing the Pennsylvania dairy farmer’s story throughout the state. I have a passion for the dairy industry and being able to share my passion with the public is something I am looking forward to.”

Mohn is a Delaware Valley College dairy science major. Each contestant prepared a speech and presentation and optionally participated in a radio spot and poster display promoting milk and dairy products; submitted a scrapbook of promotion activities; took a dairy industry knowledge quiz; and participated in an interview with a panel of four judges.

Mohn won the poster, presentation and scrapbook competitions, was runner-up in the radio spot contest, and received honorable mention in the speech competition.

Mohn, a member of DelVal’s Class of 2016, is an orientation leader and member of Sigma Alpha agricultural sorority. She remains involved with 4-H and FFA at school and in Berks County, as well as Marion Grange, and the state Holstein and Red & White associations. For the next year, the new state royalty team will represent Pennsylvania’s dairy industry and its 7,400 dairy farm families. The dairy industry is the state’s top agriculture industry, contributing nearly $6 billion to the economy and supporting more than 60,000 jobs across the state.

After she graduates, Mohn would like to work in marketing for a dairy-related company or organization. She’s interested in using her public relations skills to help promote the dairy industry. Mohn is one of several agriculture ambassadors selected from the College. In 2011, Gabrielle Murphy ’14 was named Pennsylvania Dairy Princess. Lia Schmittel ’14, a Delaware Valley College equine science and management major, was crowned the 2014 Pennsylvania Fair Queen in January 2014. The positions help students gain real-world experience as a representative and educator for an industry.
