Honey Brook Community Library Director Jennifer Spade was all smiles Friday, Nov. 14.

Library volunteers, board members and Friends of the Library were all gathered to enjoy a ‘thank you luncheon’ from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Honey Brook Community Library, 687 Compass Road.

Guests were seated at tables decorated with a fall theme in the main library area. Spade welcomed the guests with a big thank you.

“Thanks for making it a great year everyone. Jacquie Slater was delegated to be in charge of the volunteers this year. She did a great job keeping it all coordinated and making sure we were staffed at all times. Thank you Jacquie,” said Spade.

“Paula McGinness couldn’t be here but she sent this card that I will read,” she continued.

“Just a quick note to thank you for your service and your willing hands and smiling faces that make it possible for the library to run smoothly. Many thanks for your service signed Paula.”

Then a small gift was given to all followed by a luncheon of chicken rice casserole, pulled pork, tossed salad, macaroni and cheese, a relish tray and fresh veggies along with homemade desserts including tasty bacon maple cookies.

As the ladies ate they talked about their experiences. Attendees included Assistant Director Nancy Conner, Librarian Assistant Colleen Rio, Volunteers Diana Cormack, Mary Ann Cranata, Fran Cox, Cleette Swymer also a member of Friends of the Library.

“I have been here years and I love books,” said both Mary Barringer and Elaine Fling also volunteers.

That was reflected back by all who donate their time and talent to this community service.

Spade chimed in with the same perspective, “I love my job. This is the most fun job. I love planning, I love reading, and I love working with the volunteers, the kids, and the public.

A Penn State graduate she resides in Lancaster County with her husband Harry and two children John, 11, and Julia, 9, who are both frequent helpers at the library.

As part of the Chester County library system they follow certain procedures. However each individual library allows for creativity in their programs and style.

An accomplishment they are proud of this year is the Young Adult Room that was completed in January. It is a separate sanctuary with a computer, books, DVD’s, and magazines geared to the 12 to 19-year-old audience.

In addition they have an annual Elves Night Out for all ages. It is a time to listen to holiday stories, make crafts, and enjoy the holiday season with family and friends. The event is so popular that registration is required. Time is drawing close Friday, Dec. 5, from 7 to 8 p.m.

A popular program for adults on Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. is Computer Tutor. Topics include applying for jobs online, resume writing, Facebook, search engines, Microsoft Word and E-readers.

A favorite is preschool story time with Miss Jennifer on Wednesday and Thursday at 10 a.m., which is best for ages 2 to 5 but all are welcome. This is a time to enjoy songs, stories, crafts and laughs and help your child to become a great reader.
