JanuaryBerks County Preservation Trust celebrates 50th: The year 2014 marked the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Berks County Historic Preservation Trust.

State Senator Judy Schwank, Oley veterans make lunches for the homeless: Joined by State Senator Judy Schwank, about 15 members of Oley American Legion Post 878 prepared some 70 lunches for distribution to the homeless men and women of Reading. Lunch organizer and Legion member Bill Lutz credits Graybill with kick-starting the program after speaking out on the subject of homelessness at a Legion meeting early last year.

Oley Township commends Officer Michael Lentz: Township police officer Michael Lentz was honored at the May 12 supervisors’ meeting for his actions while on duty during a recent emergency call.

JuneEast Penn Manufacturing CEO struck, killed while jogging: Sally Miksiewicz, 52, of Lobachsville Road, was struck while jogging and killed instantly on Friday, June 20. She was hit by a truck driven by Mark Miller, 56, of Richmond Township around 7:27 a.m. on Boyer Road in Pike Township, not far from Miksiewicz’s home.

Vaccaro Memorial Highway’ approved by Senate: Born in Reading in 1972, Vaccaro graduated from Oley Valley High School in 1990 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1991.
