State Senator Judy Schwank, Oley veterans make lunches for the homeless: Joined by State Senator Judy Schwank, about 15 members of Oley American Legion Post 878 prepared some 70 lunches for distribution to the homeless men and women of Reading. Lunch organizer and Legion member Bill Lutz credits Graybill with kick-starting the program after speaking out on the subject of homelessness at a Legion meeting early last year.

JuneEast Penn Manufacturing CEO struck, killed while jogging: Sally Miksiewicz, 52, of Lobachsville Road, was struck while jogging and killed instantly on Friday, June 20. She was hit by a truck driven by Mark Miller, 56, of Richmond Township around 7:27 a.m. on Boyer Road in Pike Township, not far from Miksiewicz’s home.
Proposal naming Alsace Twp. Road, Lance M. Vaccaro Memorial Highway’ approved by Senate: Born in Reading in 1972, Vaccaro graduated from Oley Valley High School in 1990 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1991. While conducting parachute training operations in Arizone, Vaccaro died on March 6, 2008, due to injury.
