Widener University, one of the nation’s premier universities for civic engagement and applied leadership, in partnership with WCAU-TV NBC10, is proud to recognize Mikaela Axman of Boyertown as a winner of the Widener University High School Leadership Awards.

In its fourth year, the program recognized 134 students from high schools throughout the Philadelphia region for their abilities to stand up for what is right, address a wrong and make a difference in their communities or schools.

Axman who attends Boyertown Senior High School has made a difference in the community by leading various local fundraising and service programs. Axman has worked closely with Alex’s Lemonade Stand to develop a schoolwide “Lemon Club” to raise funds for pediatric cancer.

“Through the High School Leadership Awards program, Widener University has the pleasure of honoring the well-deserving high school students within our community who demonstrate courage and responsibility through their inspiring leadership,” said Widener University President James T. Harris III. “The program recognizes those committed to service, civic engagement, and community, which are values deeply-rooted within Widener University.”

“It is an honor to take part in the High School Leadership Awards and be able to recognize an incredible group of students whose leadership and service collectively strengthen our entire region,” said Eric Lerner, President and General Manager of NBC10 Philadelphia. “The strength, compassion and courage of these student winners act as shining examples for us all.”
