With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, one local group have wasted no time to celebrate their loved ones.

Girls throughout the area recently danced the night away at the 26th annual Valentine Dance on Friday, Feb. 6, at New Hanover Methodist Church in Gilbertsville.

The dance, organized by the Boyertown Service Unit of the Eastern Pennsylvania Girl Scout Council, brought more than 260 young ladies and men-all of which were “dressed to the nines,” according to organizers.

The girls, ranging in grades Kindergarten through 12, were escorted to the dance by their father or another significant male adult. The music was provided by DJ, Martin A. Divergigelis.

In addition to dancing, there were other activities for attendees to participate in. For instance, in the cafe, girls could enjoy cookies and juice with their dates; in the lobby there was a station for making Valentine bookmarks for a local nursing home; in another room, Steve Pestrock Photography was on hand to provide a photo to commemorate the event.

The coordinators of the event also organized a canned goods drive for the Boyertown Salvation Army.

“It was a long day for many of the Girl Scout leaders and volunteers,” said one of the organizers. “Decorating began in the early afternoon and clean up ended at 10 p.m. All of the volunteers enjoy giving of their time to this very worthwhile event. The girls love getting dressed up and spending time with the important man in their life.”
