The Daniel Boone Optimist Club held their 13th annual Easter egg hunt on Sunday, March 22, at Amity Community Park.
Jay Merz, Daniel Boone Optimist Club Treasurer and chair of this year’s egg hunt, said volunteers filled 7,000 eggs with candy, dollar coins, and prize tickets. The eggs were placed in the snowy field early in the day. By 2 p.m., the egg hunt start time, the snow had melted-leaving mud and puddles behind.
The hunt was organized by age groups: 0 – 2 yrs., 3 – 5 yrs., 6-8 yrs., and ages 9 yrs. and higher.
The Easter Bunny and about four hundred children, primarily from the Daniel Boone School District, attended the event. A mom of two, Kelley Banninger, said that they have been coming to the Optimist Egg Hunt for three years.
Four-year-old Nicholas and Nathan DiGiosia both guessed that they would probably have about 10 eggs in their baskets at the end of the hunt. After the children opened their eggs and retrieved their prizes, they visited with the Easter Bunny.
