Elmcroft Senior Living Community wanted to celebrate Earth Day with their moto “Here’s to Life.”
On Wednesday, April 22, they chose to celebrate by planting a butterfly bush and inviting Judy Plica to speak on life and the new beginnings that come with spring
Plica is the facilitator for GriefShare through the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Exeter. She spoke to Elcroft residents about how the earth has transformed over the centuries, and how each person can help to restore the environment. She read passages from the Bible and spoke about the magnificence of the butterfly’s transformation.
Plica explained how new beginnings are all around in the spring. Just like the butterfly tree produces its first blooms, she described how a butterfly attaches to a milk weed, and from there starts a new beginning.
The residents said it reminds them as the earth produces new beginnings, so does Elmcroft Senior Living for many. When the time comes in our lives, we somehow have the courage to start our new beginning.
“We are like the butterfly, when we first came to Elmcroft we were in our cocoons, as time goes on, the transformation we, as individuals, make turned us into beautiful butterflies with a new sense of adventure to keep learning new and interesting things about ourselves,” said Fran M. Burkhart of Elmcroft.
Plica ended her presentation by giving a butterfly pin to each resident.
