Meet your new Hamburg Item editor, Lisa Mitchell.

I am managing editor of Berks-Mont Newspapers and have been working in the editorial department for Berks-Mont since 2006. My experiences with weekly newspapers began 13 years ago after graduating from Kutztown University with a degree in professional writing. Needless to say, weekly community newspapers is a passion of mine. I love sharing people’s stories and keeping the community informed in this fast paced world.

I became the new editor of The Hamburg Area Item about two weeks ago. You’ll find me most Tuesdays enjoying a cup of coffee at Third Street Cafe. Feel free to email me questions, story suggestions or submit a story or photos. Send to lmitchell@berksmontnews.com and mark the email subject as Item. Note that we work about a week and a half in advance. Submissions of releases, announcements and calendar listings must be submitted by Friday mornings week prior to publication. We truly appreciate the community’s contributions to The Hamburg Item, this is your paper, this your community forum.

The past 13 years have been a whirl-wind experience of changes and developments in the field of newspapers, the biggest being the Internet. Our presence online and social media has become an integral part of what we do as news media editors. We are no longer defined or limited by print space, but instead aim to expand, promote, inform and engage readers online and in social media.

The past couple of years Berks-Mont Newspapers has been shifting from having just one person involved in everything for each paper to a group of editors working together on the Berks-Mont News website, our social media sites and our print products. Our main goal and driving force is to bring our readers more community and regional news online and in print, and to interact and engage our readers more online and in print.
