About 70 people participated in the Schuylkill Canal Association Fundraiser Paddle Wednesday evening, Aug. 5, which brought in $1,800.

Paddlers started from the Lock 60 boat launch in Mont Clare then traveled a five-mile loop along the canal. Doug Chapman, event organizer and owner of Take it Outdoors Adventures, made good on a promise when he navigated the river on a standup paddleboard while wearing a dress. Participants were able to see the amusing sight because the event exceeded the $1,500 fundraising goal.
