A handful of volunteers continue to push for a cause close to their hearts. On Sunday, Oct. 4, the 3rd Annual Bark For Life of Boyertown/Oley Valley kicked off at the Oley Fairgrounds. The event benefits the American Cancer Society under Boyertown’s Relay For Life.

The goal is to raise awareness and funding for the fight against cancer in addition to supporting all cancer survivors and caregivers – canine and human. The Grand Marshal for this year’s event was Sabrina Palermo, age 9.

Many local businesses, groups and rescues participated in the event. One of these groups represented the’The PJ Project.’

Sixteen-year-old Kaitlyn Berger and 16-year-old Hannah Gallagher of Boyertown High School were selling jewelry and raising money for ‘The PJ Project.’ In 2010, Berger wanted to help children in need and started collecting new and gently used pajamas to help children in need. The 5,000 pajamas have gone to benefit children at the Delaware County Homeless Shelters, The Laurel House (Montgomery County) and the Berks Women in Crisis. In this ongoing project, they accept pajamas in any size, for any gender and any season. More info can be found at <http://thepjproject.weebly.com>.
