Have you ever wondered what it’s like to live life in the day of someone who has dementia? What is their perspective? Thanks to Chestnut Knoll, caregivers and family members are able to “walk in their loved ones’ shoes” and experience dementia for themselves, so they can better understand the physical and mental challenges of those who have dementia.

Chestnut Knoll Personal Care and Memory Care is pleased to invite the public to The Virtual Dementia Tour (R), a simulated dementia experience, created by Second Wind Dreams(R). There are multiple opportunities to have your own personal experience. Please call to schedule a time that best suits you.

Sessions will be held Tuesday, Oct. 13; Wednesday, Oct. 14; or Thursday, Oct. 15.

As part of this virtual tour, participants will be given sets of everyday tasks to be completed while senses are impaired, which simulates the physical and mental difficulties associated with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, such as loss of auditory interpretation, increased confusion, loss of central and peripheral vision, and more.

After experiencing this tour, participants will have a greater understanding of the realities of what living with dementia is like. This program has shown to improve communication and care, and provides information that guests can take away so they can learn how to create a positive environment for those with dementia.

“The Virtual Dementia experience is designed to sensitize caregivers to what those affected with dementia may be experiencing on a daily basis. The experience gives those who participate just a small glimpse of how confusing and complicated everyday simple life tasks can be to those who suffer from memory impairment,” said Shawn Barndt, executive director. “It has been an eye- opening experience for those who have completed the experience, and ultimately, may help with understanding and making the caregiver more aware and compassionate to what the person is going through.”

This event is free and open to the public; however, registration is required. Please call 610-473-8066 to reserve a time and day for this one-of-a-kind experience!
