Amy Resh is the new director of the Boone Area Library hired in September 2015. Resh graduated from Exeter High School, received her Library Science degree from Kutztown University, a Masters in Business Administration from Alvernia University, and a Masters in Library Information Science from Drexel. Amy’s work experience includes Alvernia University archaist, and the Adult Services Librarian at Parkland Community Library in Leigh County. She lives in Montgomery County with her husband, her two dogs and a cat.
Amy originally started out studying to be a French teacher, but while doing some course work she discovered that it was not for her. However, with her love of learning and her belief in lifelong learning, she discovered that library science was her passion. What excites her about working at the Boone Library is that libraries are a place to learn. “It is the human partnership and connection to people and helping them look up the answers and teaching them how to use the computer,” said Resh on what she feels are integral parts of her job.
In the age of internet Resh feels that the library is relevant. Many times it is difficult to determine what is good or bad information. “Google can bring you a thousand answers, a librarian can bring you the right one,” Resh said.
Future programs and plans for the library include a program called Teach Tuesdays, which is a class on how to use your mobile device, including downloading books, implementing a Teen Library Council to keep kids off the street and give them a place to go. Resh also would like to start a community survey to get public input on what is the need in the community what library materials and classes the community would want and like. She also would like to reactivate the Friends of the Library group. Finally, Resh said she would like the library to become the most valuable resource in the community for all ages. Many seniors and boomers are on a fixed income and because the Birdsboro senior center has limited hours, she sees the library as filling that void.
Upcoming library events: December 12 from 9AM to 11AM Breakfast with Santa. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children. Also on December 12th , Christmas in Candyland from 4:3O PM to 8:00 PM. The event is for children 12 and under and includes games and crafts. There will be prizes and giveaways.
