More than 150 people recently attended the annual Valentine’s Dance, sponsored by the Boyertown Service Unit of Girl Scouts of Eastern PA.

Held on Friday, Feb. 5, this magical evening is for Girl Scouts of all ages and their fathers or other significant male adult. The girls wore fancy dresses and many of the men wore suit jackets or sweaters and ties. It was fun to see the smiles on the girls faces as they dance and spend time with their “dates.” To commemorate the event, Steve Pestrok of East Greenville, provided 5 X 7 photographs.

In addition to dancing, there was opportunity to serve others in the community. Non-perishable food items were collected for the Boyertown Area Multi-Service and Valentine bookmarks were made for people at the Senior Center.

Many of the Girl Scout Troop leaders spend hours preparing for the dance each year. The women gather around noon, the day of the event, to prepare the rooms at New Hanover United Methodist Church on Swamp Pike in Gilbertsville. Decorations are set out, snacks are picked up, red and white balloons are filled with helium. After the dance is over, troop leaders stay behind to clean up and put away the supplies for next year.
