On Friday, March 4, and Sunday, March 6, Daniel Boone High School put on their yearly production of ‘Seuss’ to benefit a local chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Daniel Boone Drama Club members have been putting on ‘Seuss’ for nearly 20 years. Students ages 14 to 18 years old have been rehearsing for this production since the middle of January.

Ryan Hoffman, first year drama advisor, explained, “Students write the script, incorporating some of Dr. Seuss’s most loved characters, and use a few song clips to tie it together. Literally EVERY aspect of this presentation is student-designed! Lights, sound, props, costumes, choreography – you name it. We aren’t actually producing ‘Seussical the Musical,’ but a student-created presentation called ‘Seuss!'”

Student producer Sarah Hoag, a senior at Daniel Boone High School, and a few other Drama Club officers wrote the script, organized the music, made the props and sets, and helped to coordinate our partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

As narrator 1, Hoag, helped write and direct the show. She has been in 11 musicals, four of which have been Boone’s annual production of “Seuss.”

“The ‘Seuss’ show is different than any other show,” said Hoag. “It’s all about having fun and most importantly giving back to not only a charity but also entertaining the younger kids in our school district. Seuss is just an overall great experience.”

Hoag will be majoring in nursing while attending Carlow University in Pittsburgh next year.

“I decided to enter this career (nursing) when my own sibling was diagnosed with cancer and I witnessed what a difference a great nurse could make in someone’s day. This is also the reason I chose Make-A-Wish as this year’s charity for ‘Seuss’ – my own sibling was granted a wish. I can say from personal experience Make-A-Wish really is an amazing organization. The joy that they are able to bring to a child whose life isn’t as easy as every other kid due to an illness is really so heartwarming.”
