Fleetwood Area Public Library

Celebrate National Library Week: Through April 16, visit the library each day to participate in a trivia contest and be entered to win prizes. Enjoy refreshments with us at different times during the week as well.

Local Author Symposium: April 16, 10 a.m. Join us as we culminate our National Library Week festivities with a poetry reading by Maria McDonnell. Brandywine Community Library

Meet a Beekeeper: April 16, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Casey Darnell of St. Ambrose Apiaries and the Lehigh Valley Beekeepers Association will share knowledge of honey bees with us. Demonstration includes visual displays, beekeeping equipment, honey extraction tools and more. Come view an observation hive for an up close look at the bees in action. Rohrbach Library at KU

Hex Sign/Barn Stars Workshops: with Patrick Donmoyer of KU’s Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center. Attendees will create their own hex sign/barn star, and hear an instructive talk on the history and lore of barn stars. Workshops will take place at STEAMworks in room 18 at the library. Dining with Diabetes: PennState Extension is offering a program that will help you learn how to better manage type 2 diabetes by offering nutrition tips, how to prepare healthy good-tasting foods, how to incorporate physical activity in your schedule and more. Know Your Symphony Lecture Series: As prelude to Saturday’s performance of the Reading Symphony Orchestra, Joe Horowitz, author and producer, will discuss the Dvorak concert, featuring renowned vocalist Kevin Deas. The concert will include the “New World Symphony.” Discussion will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Highlands at Wyomissing. There is a nominal ticket fee.

Kutztown Folk Music Society: presents Don Sineti, self-taught artist, educator and musician, and activist who helped found the Wethersfield, Connecticut based Cetacean Society International, which aims to protect whales, porpoises and dolphins around the world. In 1960s coffee houses, he was a chantey-man at Mystic Seaport Museum, and performed with the Finest Kind and The Morgans.
