Gloria L. Tricarico

Gloria L. Tricarico, 89, formerly of Hamburg and Reading died Dec. 19 in Kindred Transitional Care, Reading.

She was the widow of Joseph J. Tricarico who died May 6, 1997.

Gloria was born in Lewiston, Maine and was the daughter of the late Leo and Loretta (Martire) LaChapelle.

She was a 1942 graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School, Brooklyn.


Gloria worked for the Atomic Energy Commission in New York City as a secretary for five years.

She is survived by two children: Marjorie A. wife of Timothy Goldbach, Greenfields, Thomas J. husband of Janette Tricarico, Vancouver, British Columbia, and a granddaughter, Jennifer wife of Frank Lomassaro, North Brunswick, New Jersey and two great grandchildren.

Services will be private with burial in Long Island National Cemetery.

Paul V. Nave, Jr.

Paul V. Nave, Jr., 74, of Shoemakersville, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 23, 2013 in St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Twp.

Born in Upper Darby, he was the son of the late Paul V., Sr., and Pauline M. (Walsh) Nave. He was a 1958 graduate of Hamburg High School. Paul was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a Purple Heart recipient and received the Navy Achievement Medal. Paul had more than thirty years of military service and retired from the U.S. military in 1999. He worked in management for many years for General Battery Corporation, Laureldale, retiring from Exide Corporation. Paul was raised in the Catholic faith. He loved driving and crossword puzzles. Paul was a fan of the Chicago Bears, Boston Red Sox, and Penn State Football.

Paul is survived by one son: Paul V. Nave, III, Shoemakersville and with whom he resided; one daughter: Milinda ďMindyĒ S. (Nave), wife of Robert Clement, Bern Twp.; two granddaughters: Clarissa and Elizabeth; a step-grandson: David; and a brother: Francis A. Nave, and his wife Cherelyn, Upper Bern Twp. He was predeceased by a sister: Grace V. Reed.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held on Dec. 31 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Mary R.C. Church, 94 Walnut Road, Hamburg. Inurnment with military honors followed in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A visitation with the family was held at the church Tuesday 10 to 10:30 am. Ella C. Adam

Ella C. Adam, 100, formerly of Perry Twp., died Sunday, December 22, 2013 in Hearthstone at Maidencreek. She was the wife of Arlan D. Adam, who died October 1970.

Born in Hamburg, she was the daughter of the late Peter J. and Carrie B. (Balthaser) Schappell. Ella first worked on the Schappell family farms in Hamburg and Perry Twp. She then worked for fifteen years as a sewing machine operator for the Merit Underwear Company, Shoemakersville and the Globe Underwear Company, Leesport. Ella then became a Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance agent for twelve years. She was a life-long and active member of Zionís Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perry Twp. Ella was a member of the ELCA at church and a former Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed making quilts for the churchís Christmas Bazarres. Ella cooked for Berks Encore Meals On Wheels at the Hamburg Senior Center. She was a member of the Shoemakersville Senior Citizens and the Leesport Womanís Club where she was chairperson of the garden division.

Ella is survived by one son: Allen D., husband of Carol A. (Shollenberger) Adam, Brighton, Michigan. She was predeceased by a son: Richard A. Adam, who died in March 2000; and a brother: Earl Schappell.

Services were held on Friday from Zionís Evangelical Lutheran Church, 354 Zionís Church Road, Shoemakersville, PA 19555. Burial followed in Zionís Cemetery, Perry Twp. Gary L. Unterkofler

Gary L. Unterkofler, 58, of Centre Twp., died Friday, December 20, 2013 in Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia. He was the husband of Rosemarie J. (Luckenbill) Unterkofler. They were married on September 29, 1979 and celebrated thirty-four years of marriage.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Mildred L. (Kreider) Unterkofler. He was a 1973 graduate of Schuylkill Valley High School. Gary was a self-employed crop farmer in Centre Twp. He enjoyed hunting and archery. Gary was a member of Lenhartsville Fish and Game Association; a life member of Shartlesville Fish and Game Association; and a member of Central Berks Fire Company and beneficial association, Centerport.

Surviving in addition to his wife is one son: Justin E. Unterkofler, Centre Twp.; one daughter: Melissa A. Unterkofler, fiance of Geoffrey Griffiths, Kutztown; and two sisters: Janet, wife of Forest Machmer, and Karen, wife of Michael Harle, both of Centre Twp.
