ANNA L. STITZEL Anna L. Stitzel, 92, passed away Sept. 30, 2013 in the Lutheran Home at Topton.
She was the widow of the late Robert P. Stitzel who died in 1994.
Anna was born in Maxatawny Township, a daughter of the late Charles O. and Bertha L. (Kemp) Bieber.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Kutztown and had been a secretary at different businesses in the Kutztown area.
She is survived by a step-daughter Mary A. Weida Kutztown; five step grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by eight brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services Friday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. in the Edward J. Hildenbrand Funeral Home, Inc., 346 W. Main St., Kutztown. Visitation with the family Friday 10 a.m. to time of service. LEONA C. KUHNS Leona C. (Titlow) Hieter Kuhns, 88, of Topton, died Oct. 1, 2013 in Kutztown Manor, Inc, where she was a resident for several months. She was the widow of Milton F. ‘Fritz’ Kuhns, who died in 1999. Her first husband, J. Adam Hieter, died April 6, 1963.
Born in Longswamp Township, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Estella E. (Knerr) Titlow.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Topton, where she served as a former Sunday school teacher.
Mrs. Kuhns was the owner and operator of the former Mother Goose Nursery School, Topton, for over 15 years. She also was employed by the Brandywine Heights School District working at the Topton Elementary School in the cafeteria.
Mrs. Kuhns was a Charter member of the former Topton Women’s Club, and a Campfire Girl Leader in Topton. She was also an avid supporter of the Brandywine Minstrel Show.
Survivors: Daughters, Suzanne E. (Hieter), wife of James D. Mabry and Mary Claire (Hieter), wife of Phil K. Roth, both of Topton; son, Adam A. Hieter, companion of Jason Lewis, Asbury Park, N.J.; grandchildren, Matthew D., husband of Tracy (Coulter) Mabry, Kate R. (Roth), wife of Ronan LeBaut, Marc N., husband of Jessica K. (Johnson) Roth; great grandchildren, Catelle, Alec, Taylor, Sierra, Keller, Payton. She was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Titlow, and a grandson, James A. Mabry in 2004.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11:30 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, 121 South Home Avenue, Topton, with Reverend Scott A. Staub officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the church. Inurnment will take place Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. in Topton Union Cemetery, Topton.

KERMIT C. SEYLER Kermit C. Seyler, 85, of Ontelaunee Twp., passed away Sunday, Sept. 29 in his residence.
Kermit was married to the late Gloria A. (Neher) Seyler who passed away October 27, 2008.
Born April 17, 1928 in Blandon, he was the son of the late Cora (Williams) Miller.
He was employed by Baldwin Hardware for thirty five years retiring in 1993.
He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church in Hyde Park.
He served in the Army and was a life member of the Temple Fire Co.
He is survived by a sister, Lorraine Bieber of Blandon, a brother, Billy, husband of Sandy Miller of Texas, a sister-in-law, Anita, wife of Kenneth Steiner of Blandon, and a sister-in-law, Cynthia, wife of Andrew Klymchuk of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Also surviving are several nephews as well as several great nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 4 in Gethsemane Cemetery Chapel of Resurrection, Reading, with Rev. Christopher M. Zelonis celebrant. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate mass cards. The Milkins Giles Funeral Home, Inc., Temple is assisting the Seyler family with funeral arrangements.
CATHERINE O. MATTHEWS Catherine O. ‘Kitty’ Matthews, 91, formerly of Kempton passed away on September 30, 2013 in her residence at Arden Court Assisted Living in Allentown.
She was born in Lyons Station on October 7, 1921 the daughter of the late Thomas and Olympia (Alvarez) Reppert.
Kitty was US Army veteran of World War II serving in the Women’s Army Corp for three and a half years. She had been employed for 25 years out of the Reading Post Office, retiring as the Postmaster of Kutztown. Kitty was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employee’s local Chapter 103 where she served as treasurer for nine year’s. She also had been the treasurer of the Fogelsville Senior Citzens for sixteen year’s. Served as a volunteer with VITA for ten years. Her interests were gardening and traveling the world.
Kitty was survived three daughter’s Leslie C. (Matthews) Ream of Kempton, Juanita R. (Matthews) Bronstein of Allentown and Pamela T. (Matthews) Baum of Kempton. Other survivors include six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son Thomas W. Matthews in 1997.

MARVIN C. KAUFFMAN Marvin C. Kauffman, 86, of Bethel, passed away Oct. 4 in his residence. Berks County has lost a great entrepreneur. It was through his vision and the partnership of his wife Pearl J. (Keeney) Kauffman of 65 years that Kauffman’s Bar-B-Que Chicken was established.
Born in Heidelberg Twp., he was the only son of the late David F. and Estella (Kramer) Kauffman.
He was a member of Trinity UCC, Rehrersburg.
He was an Air Force Veteran, having served in WWII.
He was a life member of the Bethel Fire Company and Mt. Aetna Fire Company. He was a member of Tall Cedars, Rajah Shriners of Reading Consistory, the Scottish Rite of Reading, and the Masonic Lodge #307, Womelsdorf. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the Bethel VFW Legion. He was the fire chief for several years for Rehrersburg. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David S. Kauffman husband of Kelly S., Tulp. Twp., and Chris E. Kauffman husband of Sherry L., Tulp. Twp; a daughter, Kim D. Glynn wife of Timothy P., Tulp. Twp.; five grandchildren, Alexis, Austin, and Erik Kauffman, Jennifer, and Kyle Glynn; and two great grandchildren, Olivia and Ella Shutter. He was preceded in death be a granddaughter, Kristen Kauffman.
Services will be held at 12 p.m., Wednesday, at Hill Funeral Home, Godfrey Street, Rehrersburg, with his pastor, the Rev. Joseph Long officiating. A Masonic Service will be held at 11:45 a.m., at the funeral home. Friends and family are invited to call from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Trinity UCC Cemetery, Rehrersburg.
