ANNA W. WARMKESSEL

Anna W. Warmkessel, 95, formerly of Kutztown, died Dec. 30, 2013, in Berks Heim, where she was a resident since 2008. She was the widow of Lester H. Warmkessel who died Aug. 6, 1995.

Born in Greenwich Township, she was a daughter of the late Solomon W. and Bertha M. (Herbein) Adams.

Mrs. Warmkessel was a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church, Kutztown.

She was employed as a seamstress for 14 years at the former Alburtis Hosiery Mill, Alburtis and 28 years at the former KATOS Sportswear, Kutztown, until her retirement in 1980.

Survivors: Daughter, Dr. Brenda A. (Warmkessel), wife of Hermann Winkler, Kutztown. There are six grandchildren, Terry Warmkessel, Kathryn (Warmkessel) Kistler, Sandra (Warmkessel) Koch, Scott Warmkessel, Juli Winkler and Josef “Seppi” Winkler; 11 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

There is also a daughter-in-law, Helen M. (Ziegler) widow of predeceased son, Wayne L. Warmkessel who died in 1974. She was also predeceased by sisters, Mabel (Adams) Grimes, Ruth (Adams) Dorwood, Betty (Adams) Eshbach, Jane (Adams) Greenawalt; brothers, Charles, Donald, Paul, Harold and John Adams.

Funeral services Jan. 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. from Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Relatives and friends may call Saturday, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

DR. RICHARD R. RIEGEL

Dr. Richard R. Riegel, 84, of Old Route 522, passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at his home.

He was born July 16, 1929, in Easton. He was a son of the late Harvey K. and Mildred (Slamp) Riegel. On April 28, 1962, he married the former Ronny W. Liem, of the Netherlands.

He attended Durham Elementary School, Easton High School, and graduated from Wilson High School, Berks County. His professional schooling included Lebanon Valley College, Lincoln Chiropractic College, Indiana University, Butler University School of Pharmacy, National College of Chiropractic, New York Chiropractic College, Western States Chiropractic College, and University of Colorado Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy.

During the Korean Conflict, Dr. Riegel served in the Army from April 20, 1951 to April 30, 1953. He was trained as a combat medic and surgical technician. He was assigned to the 8055 MASH.

Dr. Riegel practiced in Kutztown from 1962 to 1980 and in Selinsgrove from 1980 to 2000.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 51 years, are one daughter, Veronica A. Riegel, of Underhill, Vt.; one son and daughter-in-law, Roland A. and Annette Riegel, of Brentwood, N.Y.; one granddaughter, Katrina A. Riegel, of Pine City, N.Y.; and one sister, Lorretta R. Deysher, of Mifflinburg.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert H. Riegel.

There was a viewing at Bible Baptist Church, Kreamer, followed by the funeral at 8 p.m. with Pastor Thomas Krampert officiating. There was a fellowship meal from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church. Burial with military honors in the Durham Cemetery, Riegelsville.
