DALE F. HAMM, SR.
Dale F. Hamm, Sr., 72, of Mertztown, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
He was the husband of Laraine R. (Hilbert) Hamm. They were married 50 years last September.
Known to his family and friends as ďKiller,Ē he was employed as a laborer by Solts Sawmill, Mertztown, for 15 years, retiring in 2008. Prior to that, he worked in the shipping department at the former Caloric Corporation, Topton for 22 years.
Mr. Hamm was a former member of the Topton and Lynnport Fire Companies. Dale enjoyed gardening, bowling, dirt track racing, and spending time with his grandchildren and watching their sporting events.
Survivors: Wife; sons, Dale F., Jr., husband of Dawn L. (Kehl) Hamm, Kutztown, Todd C., husband of Deb N. (Wert) Hamm, Reading; sisters, Faye (Hamm), widow of Clark Billig, New Tripoli, Diane (Hamm), wife of Neil Mengel, Mount Joy, Lancaster County; brother-in-laws, Harold Handwerk, Kempton, widower of predeceased sister, Linda (Hamm) Handwerk and Dennis C., Sr., husband of Sandra Hilbert, Mertztown; and several nieces and nephews. There are also four grandchildren, Alexa C., Natalie L, Colin J., and Trenton T. Hamm.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 23, at 10:30 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Scott A. Staub and Reverend Jeremiah A. Sassaman officiating. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Dryville. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Thursday morning from 10 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

ARLENE M. REPPERT
Arlene M. Reppert, 86, of Topton, died Jan. 16, 2014, in the Lutheran Home at Topton, where she was a resident since 2012. She was the widow of Harley A. Reppert, who died Feb. 16, 1993.
Born in Longswamp Township, she was a daughter of the late Mahlon E. and Mabel M. (Geisinger) Fritch.
She was a member of St. Paulís Lutheran Church, Mertztown.
Mrs. Reppert was an employee of the United States Postal Service, working two years in Mertztown and 18 years in Kutztown, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Kutztown Grange and the Pioneer Grange, Topton.
Survivors: Son, David A., husband of Cheryl A. (Manwiller) Reppert, Mertztown; brother, Nevin E. Fritch, Palm Harbor, FL; granddaughters, Chelsea M. (Reppert) wife of Ian A. Mondrick and Alison R. Reppert Gerber wife of Stephanie A. Reppert Gerber; great grandson, Liam D. Mondrick.
She was pre-deceased by a brother, Edward M. Fritch.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 20, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paulís Lutheran Church, 50 Luther Drive, Mertztown, with Reverend Jeremiah A. Sassaman officiating. Interment will follow in Longswamp Union Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call Sunday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Home, 25 E. Weis Street, Topton, and Monday 10 to 10:30 a.m. in the church.

HARRY F. MILLER
Harry F. Miller, 86, of Kutztown, died Jan. 16, 2014 in Kutztown Manor.
He was the husband of Jean M. (Kunkel) Miller.
Harry was born in Maxatawny Township a son of the late Harry and Stella (Bieber) Miller.
He was a member of St. Johnís Lutheran Church, Kutztown and was a Navy Veteran of WWII.
Mr. Miller was employed at Rockwell International as a maintenance supervisor until retiring.
He is survived by his wife Jean, daughter Lori S., son Steven E., all of Kutztown.
He was pre-deceased by sisters Helen Koller, Laura Schott, Bernice Angstadt, brothers Charles and Alan Miller.

RONALD L. SCHITTLER
Ronald L. Schittler, 67, of Topton, died suddenly Jan. 16, 2014, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, shortly after admission.
He was the husband of June F. (Smith) Schittler. They were married June 14, 1969.
Born in Longswamp Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Richard A. and Pearl M. (Moyer) Schittler.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Topton. Ronald was a graduate of Brandywine Heights High School. He was a US Army Veteran having served in Viet Nam. Mr. Schittler was employed over 40 years as a production laborer at East Penn Manufacturing Company, Lyon Station, until his retirement in 2012. Ronald was a member of the Topton Fish and Game Association.
Survivors: Wife; daughters, Vicki L. (Schittler) wife of P. Doug Letterman, Fleetwood and Lisa A. (Schittler) wife of Mark J. Preletz, Bernville. Other survivors include a sister Barbara (Schittler) wife of Richard Reis, New Ringgold, Schuylkill County and a brother, Richard Schittler, State College, Centre County.
There are also five grandchildren, Christian T., Kyle P., Connor M., Christine E. and Catherine R. Letterman.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 10:30 a.m. from Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 25 East Weis Street, Topton, with Reverend Scott A. Staub, officiating. Interment in Longswamp Union Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

ERNEST M. SHAPPELL
Ernest M. Shappell, 88, of Ontelaunee Township died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was predeceased by his wife Doris L. (Dunkleberger) Shappell, died December 1994.
Born in Shoemakersville, he was the son of the late Melvin and Edna Shappell. He was a class of 1942 graduate of Perry High School. Ernest was a marine veteran of WWII. He worked as a 4 mill operator at Carpenter Technology for 28 years, retiring in 1987. Ernest was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Leesport, Blandon Fire Company, and Temple Fire Company.
Ernie is survived by a son: Daryl E. husband of Julia A. (Kerr) Shappell, Exeter Twp.; four grandchilren: Bo Shappell, West Chester, Ty Shappell, Exeter Twp., Alison DiSandro and Cheryl DiSandro, both of Exeter Twp. He is also survived by a brother Donald Shappell, Shoemakersville. Ernie was predeceased by a brother: Carl Shappell.
