JOHN L. CONRAD

John L. Conrad, 83, of Honey Brook, died on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Meadows Health Care Center at the Tel Hai Retirement Community, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

He was born in Chicago, Ill., on July 30, 1930. John was the son of the late Clarence and Clara (Cooper) Conrad. He was the husband of M. Kathryn (Kern) Conrad, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.

John was employed as an orderly/nursing assistant for the Ephrata Community Hospital & Lancaster General Hospital for over 38 years. He served his country proudly in the US Army in the 18th Engineer Combat Division, during the Korean War, while stationed in Germany. After his military service, John worked at Luken’s Steel in Coatesville. Prior to retirement, he was employed as an assistant animal caretaker at Federated Medical Resources.

John was an active member of the Honey Brook United Methodist Church for 61 years. He served on the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee and the trustees of the church. John participated in the Lay Witness Program of the United Methodist Church for many years, also the Pocket Testament League and Operation Carelift. He was also a volunteer at Lancaster General Hospital, after his retirement. John enjoyed Philadelphia sports, with the Eagles and Phillies as his favorite teams.

John was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mary Spredbury & Sue Conrad.

He is survived in addition to his wife by a brother, Fred Conrad of FL and a sister, Josephine Chisholm of WA. Also by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11 AM from The Labs Funeral Home, Inc., 141 Pequea Ave., Honey Brook, Pa., with Rev. Dr. James Bamberger officiating. An interment will follow at the Honey Brook Methodist Cemetery. A calling hour will be held one hour prior to the service.

JOANNE J. “JO-JO” GIUNTA

Joanne J. “Jo-Jo” Giunta, 62, of Honey Brook passed away on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 at her home, while under the loving care of her family, friends and hospice.

She was born on Dec. 9, 1951 in Coatesville. Joanne was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Marie (Filoroma) Giunta.

She was the owner and director of the Honey Brook Early Learning Center for over 40 years. Joanne loved nature, gardening, music and hosting parties at her home.

She is survived by her life partner, Mary P. Vaughn and her children, Jon and Kirsten; a brother, William and his wife Phyllis Giunta and their family of Jesse, Christina, Owen and Savannah; a former husband Simple Myers and so many dear friends that were so important to her life and also there during her illness. Joanne loved her pets; she leaves behind a dog, Joli and two cats, Pesto and Romeo.

A celebration of life service with a time to share memories of Joanne will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 11AM from The Labs Funeral Home, Inc., 141 Pequea Ave., Honey Brook, Pa. All attending are encouraged to wear colorful clothing to the service in honor of Joanne and the life she lived.

ROBERT L. “BOBBY” PLANK

Robert L. “Bobby” Plank, 65, of Honey Brook, died on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Brandywine Hospital, following an illness.

He was born in Honey Brook on July 30, 1948. Robert was the son of the late Charles E. and Elizabeth R. (Hoopes) Plank. He was the husband of Virginia M. “Ginny” (Donton) Plank, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage.

Robert was a retired electrician, who was employed for Harrington and Sons of Wagontown for 45 years. He was a lifetime member of the Honey Brook Fire Company, where he served in many positions, including Fire Chief. Robert served his country proudly as a US Army veteran, during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Wawassan Post # 322 of Honey Brook. Robert enjoyed NASCAR, hunting and his beloved grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and a brother, Betty Lou Plank, Ruth Ann Emery and Charles “Butch” Plank.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Bruce Plank of Honey Brook, 2 daughters, Tina (Raymond) Dymond of Elverson & Denise (Darryl) Hehnly, 8 brothers and sisters, Shirley Weidman, Pat Longabaugh and Barry Plank all of Narvon, Dottie Mae Barrage, John Plank and Jim Plank all of Honey Brook, Bev Ludwig of East Earl, and Richard Plank of Slippery Rock. There are also 4 grandchildren.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 12 PM from the Honey Brook Presbyterian Church, 4331 Horseshoe Pike, Honey Brook, with Rev. William Elliott officiating. Interment will follow be private at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends from 10 AM to 12 PM on Saturday at the church.
