Lenore Kneedler

LENORE E. KNEEDLER

Lenore E. Kneedler, 97, of Saucony Cross Apartments, Kutztown, passed away March 14, 2014 in Kutztown Manor.

She was the widow of Randall O. Kneedler who died in 1971.

Mrs. Kneedler was born in Macungie, a daughter of the late Frank E. and Meda M. (Arnel) Wetzel.

She was a member of Solomon UCC, Macungie.

She is survived by a son Randall O. of St. Thomas, the US Virgin Islands; Four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; sister Frances Leibensperger, Kutztown, brother Arnel R. Wentzel, Allentown.

Funeral services on Wednesday at 11 A.M. in the Edward J. Hildenbrand Funeral Home, Inc., 346 West Main Street, Kutztown. Interment in Solomon UCC Cemetery, Macungie. CHARLES C. HILBERT

Charles C. Hilbert, 69, of Topton, died Thursday, March 13, 2014 in his residence. He was the husband of Linda A. (Frantz) Hilbert. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late John C. and Betty B. (Oswald) Hilbert. He was a member of Calvary United Church of Christ, Barto. Mr. Hilbert was employed in the shipping department at the former Bally Case and Cooler Co., Bally for 26 years, retiring in 1991.

Survivors: Wife; step-daughters, Lisa R. Kline, Schuykill Haven, Michelle L. Kline, Kutztown; step-son, Thomas P. Kline, Laureldale; sisters, Arline (Hilbert), wife of Dennis Gibiser, Cetronia, and Linda A. Hilbert, Kutztown; three step sisters, and two step brothers. There are also seven grandchildren; ten nieces; and five nephews.

The family will host a memorial service on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Calvary United Church of Christ, 1231 Route 100, Barto, PA. Reverend Elmer Reinhold will officiate. GEORGE H. KUTZ

George H. Kutz, 83, of Maxatawny Township, died Thursday, March 13, 2014 in the in-patient hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the widower of Anna M. (Holben) Kutz. Born in Richmond Township, he was a son of the late Solon E. and Beulah (Harke) Kutz. Mr. Kutz was employed as a molder by the Hamburg Foundry, Hamburg, where he retired in 1993. Prior to that, he worked as a molder for Reading Gray Iron Corp., Reading, for over 30 years. Mr. Kutz enjoyed hunting and traveling; and was a member of Pikeville Sportsmanís Association; and the Temple, Kutztown, and Kempton Fire Companies.

Survivors: Daughters, Betty A. Kutz and Sallie M. (Kutz), wife of Dennis L. Mitchell, both of Kutztown. He was predeceased by sisters, Mae (Kutz) Leiby, Mabel (Kutz) Fox; and brothers, Daniel Kutz, Stanley Kutz and Paul Kutz; and a set of twin boys who died in infancy.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Arthur L. Hahn officiating. Interment will follow in New Jerusalem Union Cemetery, Fleetwood. Relatives and friends may call Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

FLOYD L. (SARGE) GAWTHORP

Floyd L. (Sarge) Gawthorp, 68, passed away in his Kutztown residence March 15, 2012.

He was the husband of Shirley L. (Moyer) Gawthorp.

Sarge was born in Allentown, a son of the late Floyd L. Gawthorp and Irene (Koneman) Moyer.

He was a Vietnam veteran having completed three tours of duty, and was a retired insurance salesman.

He is survived in addition to his wife by a daughter Rebecca Gawthorp, and son Floyd L. Gawthorp , both of New Hampshire; step-sons Dwayne Trump, Mississippi; David Trump, Shartlesville; Scott Trump, Reading; three grandchildren.

Sargeís wishes were that there not be any services.

MELBA M. FAUST

Melba M. (Geiger) Faust, 78, a former resident of the Saucony Cross Apartments, Kutztown, died Saturday, March 15, 2014 in The Lutheran Home at Topton, where she was a resident for over two years.

She was the widow of Kenneth M. Faust, who died May 25, 1980.

Born in Maxatawny Township, she was a daughter of the late Spencer E. and Anna Marie (Henderson) Geiger.

Mrs. Faust was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Zionís Union Church, Maxatawny.

She was a 1953 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. Mrs. Faust was employed as a bindery operator at Day-Timer, Inc., Lower Macungie Township, for 15 years, retiring in 1999. She was a member of the Kutztown and Lyons Fire Companyís Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors: Daughter, Tina M. (Faust) Arndt, widow of Robert V. Arndt and companion of Richard L. Mack, Topton; sisters, Janet E. Geiger, Topton, Jean A. (Geiger), wife of Richard F. Harter and Linda H. (Geiger), widow of Dallas C. Henninger, both of Kempton.

There are also two grandchildren, Jesse R. Arndt and Matthew L. Mack; and two great grandchildren, Courtney and Brent Arndt.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Herbert H. Michel officiating. Interment will follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

Kenneth R. Grim

Kenneth R. Grim, 95, of Hamburg, died Sunday, March 9, 2014 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the husband of Dorothy L. (Bailey) Grim. They were married on October 5, 1946 and celebrated sixty-seven years of marriage.

Born in Hamburg, he was the son of the late Frederick and Florence (Hain) Grim. He was a graduate of Hamburg High School. Kenneth was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a radio operator for General Patton; and served in the 4th Armored Division. He also received the Bronze Star. Kenneth began working with his father at Grimís Music House; and then became the owner and operator of Grimís TV in Hamburg. He enjoyed working on old radios and building model airplanes. Kenneth was an avid bird watcher. He and his wife enjoyed annual trips to Point Pelee in Ontario. Kenneth and his wife Dorothy were volunteers at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary for over twenty years; and in 2011, they were both recognized for their volunteer service. He was a member of Union Fire Company #1 and beneficial association, Hamburg.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Brian K. Grim, husband of Beverly J. (Correll) Grim, Lenhartsville; and Kerry A. Grim, husband of Susan N. (Nothstein) Grim, Hamburg; and three grandchildren: Stephanie, Ellen and Kevin Grim.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg. Burial will be in St. Johnís Cemetery, Hamburg. Mary Ann Balthaser

Mary Ann Balthaser, 79, of Hamburg, died Sunday, March 9, 2014 in Manor Care, Sinking Spring. She was the wife of Carl W. Balthaser, who died June 9, 1989.

Born in Penn Twp., she was the daughter of the late William F. and Florence (Schaeffer) Schlappich. She was a graduate of Penn-Bernville High School. Mary Ann worked as a dietary worker for twenty-five years for the Hamburg Center, retiring in 1996. She loved bingo and country music.

Surviving is one son: Carl W. Balthaser, Jr., and his wife Sandra L. (Zeiber) Balthaser, Hamburg; one daughter: Nancy L. (Balthaser), wife of Randy G. Faust, Perry Twp.; four grandchildren: Christopher and Raquel Balthaser; and Wesley and Tabetha Faust; and ten grandchildren. Mary Ann was predeceased by four brothers: Charles, William, Herbert, and Luther Schlappich; and four sisters: Lillian Boyer, Mollie Lutz, Pauline Shade, and Mildred Fry.

Services were held on Friday from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg. Burial followed in Strausstown Cemetery. MARK C. LUCKENBILL

Mark C. Luckenbill, 88, formerly of Lyons, and a resident at the Lutheran Home at Topton, passed away March 18, 2014 in the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of the late Elsie L. (Spohn) Luckenbill.

He was born in Perry Township a son of the late Jerry and Lavada (Heffner) Luckenbill.

Mark was a member of Zion Moselem Lutheran Church, and was a production foreman at Deka Battery for 42 years.

He was a WW II Navy veteran and participated in the D Day landing at Omaha Beach.

Mark was a member of the Lyons Fire Company.

He is survived by a son Michael P., Lyons, daughter Lori L., wife of Perry Welder, Blandon, brother Ray J. Luckenbill, Wernersville. He was pre-deceased by a daughter Susan M. in 2013.

LESTER J. GEORGE

Lester J. George, 92, passed away in his Greenwich Township residence March 17, 2014 surrounded by his family.

He was the husband of the late Doris (Dolly) C.( Werley ) George who died in 2009.

Lester was born in Greenwich Township a son of the late Howard and Alma (Rahn) George.

He was a member of New Jerusalem Zion UCC, Krumsville.

Mr. George was a hard worker, farmer and iron worker for local 420. He loved the outdoors and his farm.

He was a WW II Navy Veteran.

He is survived by a daughter Teena S. wife of Larry Moyer, Kutztown; sons Brock H., Richmond Township, Dean A. Florida; Andy J. and fiancťe Stephanie Koehler, Mertztown; Grandchildren Courtney, Timothy, Lisa, Cady, Jesse, Micah, Noah; great grandson Dexter; Sister Marion wife of Kermit Schwoyer, Kutztown.

He was pre-deceased by brother Carl George; sisters Mildred Dengler; Laila Zettlemoyer; Evelyn Christman.
