HARRY BARNETT JR.Harry L. Barnett, Jr., 89, of Elverson, was welcomed by our Lord in to Heaven on, Sunday June 1, 2014, following a sudden illness at the Brandywine Hospital.

Harry was born on Jan. 17, 1925 in Lower Chansford Twp., York Co., on a small farm where his family raised crops and livestock. He was the son of the late Harry L. Sr. and Stella Barnett. Harry is survived by his wife Geraldine L. ‘Gerry’ Barnett, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage on May 20, 2014.

Harry graduated from Lower Chansford High School on May 26, 1943. The next day at 7AM in the morning, he reported to Harrisburg to be inducted into the US Army to serve his country. He served with the 164th Combat Engineers as a driver for various officers. Mostly he was on Reconnaissance Duty, which placed him in the line of duty on the front line. He left the war in 1946 as a staff sergeant.

Harry continued his education in the agriculture field. He went to work for a soil conservation service in the Chester County area. It was at this time he had met his bride to be. Harry retired from the soil conservation service in 1989 after 35 years. During this time Harry had met many lifetime friends. He enjoyed hunting in Clearfield County. Harry was a member of a Masonic Lodge in York County.

Harry became active in the Elverson Volunteer Fire Department. He volunteered as an EMT on the ambulance squad, and also served as the ambulance captain and fire police captain. He dedicated 33 years to this service.

Surviving in addition to his wife are 3 sons, Harry L. Barnett, III of Penryn, John O. Barnett and Glen A. Barnett both of Elverson, and a sister, Nancy Grim of Red Lion. There are also 4 grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 11 AM at The Labs Funeral Home, Inc., 141 Pequea Ave., Honey Brook, Pa. with Rev. Rick Hostetter officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Elverson Methodist Cemetery. A calling hour will be held on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
