I wanted to take a moment to say a big thank you to the students, teachers and readers for the past few weeks. As a local community news paper, The Item relies on its readers and their submissions as well as participation.

One of the features in the Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 issues that was fun to read was the holiday letters. It was a chance to remember what it was like to be in second grade during the holidays. And of course it was a chance for the students to be a big part of the paper. Thank you to the second graders at Bethel Elementary School for sharing their favorite holiday activity or tradition and their teachers Mrs. Kiebach, Mrs. Schneck and Mrs. Schweigert for taking the time to do this with their classes. Thank you to Hamburg Area School District second graders from both Tilden and Perry for sharing their favorite holiday movies, television specials and songs and their teachers Mrs. Honicker, Mr. Shappell, Mr. Bryan, Mrs. Gatley, Ms. Hay, Mr. Schaeffer, Mrs. Biehl and Mrs. Smith for taking the time to do this with their classes. Thank you to Penn-Bernville Elementary second graders for sharing their favorite holiday foods and their teachers Miss Balsbaugh, Mrs. Fernandez and Mrs. Fisher for taking the time to do this with their classes. Thank you to Schuylkill Valley Elementary School second graders for sharing what they look forward to during the holidays and their teachers Mrs. Rudy, Miss Wisniewski, Ms. Emerson, Miss Rothenberger, Ms. Hartman, Mrs. Gwiazdowski and Mrs. Reimert for taking the time to do this with their classes.

I really hope that the readers had as much fun reading through the responses I had.

The Item aslo had early deadline recently which can often make things hectic and stressful for all involved even more so with the holidays. Thank you to the churches and groups that submit events as well as reader submissions for dealing with the early deadlines.

And as always, thank you for all submissions and phots of the snow. This is your paper so please do not hesitate to send submissions to ssingley@berksmontnews.com or stop by the office. I want to say ‘thank you’ one last time to everyone and I hope you had a great time over the holidays.
