Splashing in the pool, laying under the sun, vacationing and picnics are all common activities during the summer months. Did you know celebrating dairy is another popular activity for the month of June? In 1937, June was announced as National Milk Month, which later turned to National Dairy Month as a way to promote drinking milk. Dairy is an important part of our diet delivering nine essential nutrients to us. While June is Dairy Month, filling your plate with dairy goes far beyond the 30 days of June.

Hi, I am Ashley Mohn, recently crowned Berks County Dairy Princess. I am currently a junior at Delaware Valley College where I major in Dairy Science and minor in Ag Business and Communication. I am proud to say I am from Berks County. Berks County ranks fourth in milk production out of all the counties that produce milk in Pennsylvania. What better way to celebrate Berks County’s achievement then by having at least three servings of dairy everyday during the month of June? Pennsylvania celebrates dairy everyday by having milk as the official beverage.

Making sure you receive your three servings of dairy everyday is not only quite easy but tasty too! Dairy products build stronger bones and teeth, all while maintaining your healthy smile. Cool off on a hot, humid June day with a sweet raspberry-strawberry smoothie and celebrate June as Dairy Month.

Raspberry-strawberry smoothieIngredients

1 cup vanilla yogurt1 cup raspberries
