From the Item Editor: It’s that time of year again, happy Halloween

We all have our favorite holidays and time of year. Fall and Halloween just happen to be mine. I’ve always enjoyed watching the leaves changes and all the different colors I pass by while driving around. Even more so, I enjoy seeing all of the decorations filling porches and yards. The creativity and time it takes to make this displays never ceases to amaze me.

October has always been my favorite month, with a close second being the start of spring training and opening day of baseball. It is not my favorite month because there are plenty of birthdays spread throughout the 31 days or for the promise of candy when I was younger. What makes me love October is the dressing up and decorating. When I have time, I treat this time of year like many do the Christmas season when they drive around looking at all the decorated houses. I enjoy doing that just as much as I enjoy seeing everyone dressed up for Halloween.

And by everyone, that includes my cat Huey. Last year was his first time having a costume and dressing up. Of course for him that means wearing it for roughly five minutes before it gets taken off. The giraffe last year was not a fun experience for him. Sure it brought plenty of laughs and he did look cute, but the costume itself was for a dog and therefore not a great fit for him.

This year I switched it up and stuck with a cat costume. Though the choices are not nearly as diverse or creative, I figured this year it would be about comfort and something that he would maybe stay in for closer to ten minutes. So this year Huey is a pumpkin. A pretty darn cute one too if I might add. What was actually pretty surprising is how he took to the outfit. The head piece is far from his favorite, but the actual body piece doesn’t seem to bother him. Rather than doing that low to the ground, strange walking that he does in just about anything else, Huey makes his way around the house with his normal walk and even bounds up and down the steps as if nothing is different. And even better, it never fails to bring a smile to my face when I come around the corner and see a big white cat with a little pumpkin outfit making his way towards me. Even when he’s trying to get the head piece off it’s pretty funny as he rolls back and forth on the ground.

Now that I’ve shared my Halloween with you, it’s your turn. With the Trick or Treat and other special nights coming up, we want to see your costumes and decorations. Did you go all out and decorate your home this year? Did you come up with the perfect costume? Did you decide to dress up your pets as well? Share your photos with us and our readers. To submit photos, you can post them on our Facebook page or email them to ssingley@berksmontnews.com.

Have a fun, safe and happy Halloween. I am certainly looking forward to seeing your photos.
