Dear Steve,I have done a lot of research and I have a very simple question – What are the ideal thermostat settings for night and day? I need an expert opinion.
Signed, Confused in K-TownDear Confused,
The perfect temperature has a lot to do with your personal comfort, but, by simply re-setting your thermostat while you are asleep or away from your home is one of the easiest cost saving measures without sacrificing personal comfort.
The easiest plan would be to use a programmable thermostat so you can set it and forget it. I recommend 68 degrees when you’re home and 55 degrees when you are not home or sleeping.
Experiment a little and see what is comfortable for your family. Lowering the temperature 10-15 degrees for at least eight hours daily during winter time will save up to 15 % a year on your heating bill.
The location of the thermostat can affect efficiency & performance level. Furniture can block natural air movement. Make sure placement is on an inside wall avoiding drafts, direct sunlight, skylights and windows.
