Dear Kutztown Patriot:For the past 8 years, I have helped out building the sets for the Kutztown High School Musicals.

During that time, I met some really great parents and kids who I now call friends. I enjoyed watching the behind the scenes rehearsals and seeing the excitement in the students’ eyes as the sets began to take shape. This year, I come to find out that parents are no longer allowed to be on stage while the students are there; in fact, we aren’t allowed in the school without the proper background checks and clearances during the week. I realize our children’s safety is the most important thing, but what a sad world this has become. As a child, I remember working side by side with my Father, uncles, neighbors and friends of my parents. Now we will have to separate the students from parents. I long for the “good old days” when life was way more simple.

Sincerely,Art Laudenslager Jr., Maxatawny
