For The Community Connection

Dear Editor,

Having one good friend makes all the difference in the world. For a person in mental health recovery, having just one good friend, a Compeer volunteer, can, in the words of one person already matched up with a volunteer, ‘make a huge difference in my recovery.’ Friendship can be an amazing healer for people recovering from a psychiatric disorder. It helps them to feel accepted and become integrated back into their community. Compeer has been named a best practice by the American Psychological Association.

Three men and one lady in the Pottstown and Spring City areas are waiting now for Compeer to recruit and train adults to become their Compeer volunteer friends. Compeer volunteering is convenient and flexible. You do it on your own schedule, just like any other friendship. Just hanging out together a few hours a month has a great impact, especially when phone calls in between remind the friend how much a volunteer cares.

For more information on Compeer, please visit www.CompeerChesco.org or call 610-436-4445 and ask for Rob Chisholm.

In friendship,

Rob Chisholm, C.C.P. (Certified Compeer Professional) Founding Director – Compeer Chester County Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania, 825 Paoli Pike, 3rd Floor, Mailbox #7, West Chester, PA 19380-4525 voice 610-436-4445, fax 610-429-1099, web www.CompeerChesco.org
